“Ms. Rose, In this highly technical world of computers, robots, automation and cell phones, it is nice to know, that an empathetic ear is there to assist you during difficult times of one’s life. The empathetic ear I am referring to is Kashele, who was my social service coordinator during 2008 and 2009. Kashele assisted me with my social security disability case. Throughout my entire contacts with her, Kashele was informative, attentive, empathetic, patient, and determined. Being a three time cancer survivor, you learn a lot about yourself. More important, you learn how others relate to your illness and discover people to be supportive or apathetic or even neutral. I truly believe that Kashele is a tremendous asset to your organization and a true client advocate. Though my health is frail, my mind is lucid…. Thanks, to Kashele’s advocacy and the assistance from the social service coordinators (SSC) organization, I was recently approved for Social Security Disability. I will be receiving my first check in February 2009, which happens to be my birthday month. This story has a nice ironic twist to this ending… Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to read this letter. Sincerely, – Joseph 2/09”
“Dear Kim, Thanks for your call yesterday. More importantly, thank you for picking up the ball and running with it on my behalf. I know this would not have come to fruition w/out your help. It means so much that people like yourself are pulling for me and that the system truly works. I am forever grateful. Fondly, Diane 1/09”
“Thank you so much for all your help. You’ve been such a blessing! We are so grateful you came into our lives and helped us out. I had no idea there was for people in a similar situation. Without you, my son and I would be going through hardships. I really wish there were proper words to thank you for what you’ve done! With all my heart I thank you for your kindness, patience, and wonderful spirit. May God bless your life as you have blessed ours! THANK YOU MIGUEL!!! Sincerely, – Crystal and Jaden”
“Dear Miguel, Thank you so much for helping us out! You did a wonderful job of assisting a family in need! Thanks again, – Jessica”
“I was elated when I received a call from SSC to assist me in getting benefits. I had applied before and was denied. With the help and expertise of Erica, the representative who helped me, I was able to be eligible for benefits. These benefits have helped improve my life tremendously. Before these benefits, I couldn’t go out the door because I had no extra money. With already having to deal with panic and anxiety attacks, it was more than hard for me. I was receiving just enough to pay my bills really. Erica was friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, helpful, accommodating, caring and even more. I felt sorry for her to have to listen to my health problems and issues. However, she reassured me that she was there to help me and that I just needed to be up front and honest about all my health issues. I feel terrible that I never wrote to thank Erica or to have her supervisor recognize her as an asset to your company. I don’t know what I would have done without her. She guided me as I stumbled on things. She was there whenever I needed her and then some. So yes, SSC was everything I looked for in my time of need. I thought because I had been denied and also did not get approved even with the appeal part of it, I was “doomed” with regard to benefits. Erica of SSC saved me in so many ways there aren’t enough words to show my appreciation of your company’s help and also of your employee, Erica. I applaud her for what she had to deal with filling out all these forms with people with disabilities that go on and on. Thank you for your guidance, your assistance, your friendliness and of course, your knowledge of the paperwork and the system. – Carol 11/08”
“Dear Miguel, I just want to send a note to let you know what a great service you have done for me. Without your help I don’t know where I would be with all that’s going on that seems to have made me sicker than before. I so appreciate you and what you have done for me and children. I know God will keep blessing you. Sincerely, – Cathie”
“Good Morning, …. Kashele was my case coordinator and worked with me to get the needed information filed correctly and promptly… She was very efficient and did exactly what she said she would do. She sent information through the mail, emailed me a list of needed information, called when she said she would, and returned my endless phone calls quickly and answered my 101 questions. In these days, where customer service seems to have gone the way of the dinosaur it’s nice to find a company who prides themselves in hiring and training their employees to do right by their customers. Kashele is truly an asset to your company and I was very glad to have her on “MY TEAM”. Thank You and please tell Kashele I said ,Good Job! Sincerely, – Toni 10/08 “

“This was a wonderful service. We were not looking forward to dealing with Social Security but this made it very simple. The Social Security employee who contacted us told us this was the best and most complete application she had ever received. Social Security did not require any additional information from us. – Sarah 8/08”
“Thank you for your help in filing the proper paperwork for s.s. disability. I would not have known where to begin. I received my notification stating I am entitled for disability benefits in March 2007. You started the paperwork in May 2006. You have made a big difference in my life. There are not enough thank you’s that I wish to say. Thank you for your professionalism and kindness. May the Good Lord bless youand take care of you and take care of you the rest of your life. Thank you Rudy! Best of everything to you! A grateful client, – Dorothy”
I have a daughter and son-in-law who are both disabled wrecks, and not really capable of dealing with their disabilities. A lawyer who she contacted for an appointment has told her that she must get all the forms from social security and fill them out, or go online and do so. She has called me to do this for her. She has no computer, can’t drive and if she could, cannot afford gas to get to my residence. My Question: Why does the lawyer not fill out the application? Is this a new rule of Social Security? She has to apply first? I went through this with my husband many yearsago, and it was a long drawn out mess, but he finally got it with the help of a good lawyer who worked with me to insure every thing was right. I repeat, why does she have to do all the application up front?
Dorothea,
It’s possible that the lawyer wants your daughter to apply on her own first and then, if she is denied, he will help with the appeal. Not sure. But, it is not an SSA rule to apply on your own first. A good disability advocate helps the claimant through the application process. That is what Freedom Disability Advocates do for their claimants. We begin with a phone interview to gather the information for the application. You might find it interesting to read “How We Help Our Claimants Tell Their Story to SSA.”
